There’s this great antique store called the Bean Plant Emporium in Linden, CA, just off Highway 26. I was there looking for a screen door when I came across this machine crank and decided it would be the perfect addition to a ceramic lamp base James Aarons had made. The bark like grooves in the ceramic inspired the leafy pattern that ended up dominating the sewn-paper collage shade.

All "Empire" lamps include new sockets, plugs and wiring. Every lamp is a unique combination of hand-made ceramics and found objects produced in our Northern CA studios. The shades use heavy acid-free rag papers and are preserved with UV and moisture-lock archival protection.
