Manha de Carnaval

Manha de Carnaval
Though this lamp is unique and hand-made, it is one in a series originally inspired by a piece I made last year called “Julius,” which utilized a cache of limited-edition papers. This time, I created an op pattern screen print of dots blending from yellow to orange, combined that with a close up of an orange print texture from a 1940s sci fi book cover, some flat-blue screen-printed scraps and an energetic hexagonal pattern inspired by an old wallpaper sample. Combine this with a James Aarons two-tone ceramic base that reminds me of an orange creamsicle mounted to a metal lamp weight and ta da!
All "Empire" lamps include new sockets, plugs and wiring. Every lamp is a unique combination of hand-made ceramics and found objects produced in our Northern CA studios. The shades use heavy acid-free rag papers and are preserved with UV and moisture-lock archival protection.
